I am a kindergarten teacher and attended an all day workshop today... what a nice break it was to go on our lunch over to a book display and find a picture book that was just too funny not to add to my personal library! Hence why I am here! I bought the copy I found on the spot...but I had to buy a copy and send it to my niece in Virginia! So she is 6 months old but my sister will get a kick out of it (I only wish I could be there when she gets it in the mail no doubt she will be in tears laughing)... and my niece will too when she is old enough! I can not wait to read it to my students tomorrow and show my fellow teachers my find. This book is great for all ages... and of course there is a moral "weaknesses can be made into strengths..." A must have!

I have a three and five year old. I picked up the book to preview it before making the purchase. I'm glad I did. It sounded hilarious, but fell short of expectations. I felt it was not at all original. The story was almost the same as "Dog Breath" by Dav Pilkey (which my kids enjoy). So I wasn't as charmed by the story. I noticed other reviewers made this observaton too.
Also, I'm okay with the occasional potty-humor, but this book is a little over-the-top. The word, "fart" is mentioned so frequently it got tiresome to read. Before you make the purchase, might I suggest, if you're buying this book for children who can't read yet, you might want to THINK how you feel about reading "FART" OUT LOUD over and over again at story-time.
If you're OK with that, and you've never read "Dog Breath" this might be one to add to you're collection. I did like the illustrations, but decided to pass on the purchase.

I know a gassy little girl who loves this book. She and I just read it in the book store and she was bawling with laughter. She farts a great deal, so she really identified with the character. Even though I didn't buy the book, she can't stop mentioning Walter, so I guess I'm going to have to purchase it for her! It had a wonderful moral, fascinating and fun illustrations, and was hilarious. I was raised with discomfort about farting, and I find that I don't feel as well-off as those kids who just farted and said "Pardon" without a blush (nor were those kids ever teased by other children as long as the gassy individual fessed up with a note of pride.) I think anybody who objects to the farting theme is being far too uptight. Maybe they just need to pass some wind.
