science fiction

I was at my school book fair and I saw this book. I read the back and found it interesting and I saw that it had 3 awards slapped on the cover. So I picked this book home and the minute I started reading it I was hooked. I normally don't like reading but this book is just plain awesome. It's about a clone, and he starts off living in a house with a servant for "the Big House". He then get's his foot cut by glass(doesn't sound horrible but when you read it you'll understand) and he is brought to this Big House, and they realize he is a clone. They kick him out but they soon take him back in. Then he must overcome prejudice from the family members, because they treat clones liek dogs. I've read 1 Harry Potter book and all those other books that are supposed to be the greatest thing thing sliced bread, but this kicks all those books into my trashcan! This could be enjoyed by a 10 year old and by a 30+ year old! Really though if you want to read a good book put down that Harry Potter and read this one

Matt was just a normal boy, so he thought, and he was never taught any different. There wasn't any way he could know any different until he met other people besides his care taker Celia. Most everyone he met said one thing to him, "dirty clone," Then just ignored him until he left. Matt could never figure out why it was so bad to be a clone until he started to get older, figure out things like most clones had there brains mashed when they first came in to the world. If clones were so bad then why was he created? Then one day he found out his purpose, he was just a organ donor to the original!

This was a great book, but it is all a opinion because if you do not like sci-fi stories you will probably hate this book. It was very well written, and it just flows right through your mind. If you have read the Ear the Eye and the Arm you probably know what I am talking about. I don't really like reading that much because I am really picky about what I read. If it doesn't flow through my brain I won't want to read it. This book also had a very interesting plot, and it gave some good out look on how cloning human beings could be such a horrible thing.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes sci-fi or books by Nancy Farmer either way you will enjoy this book. It is just a all around good book.

The authors purpose for writing this novel was to give the reader suspense and mystery. One example is when Matt, the main character, is framed for killing his friends dog when he didn't. He then must prove his innocents to a crowd of prejudice people. It is suspenceful when one of Matt's best friend's, Tam Lin, pretends to become evil in order to help save Matt.I think the author definitely achieved her two goals of being suspenseful and providing mystery. This book was brilliantly written.
