I'm a housewife. When I grow up I want to be a beach bum.

I want to be a bum too
but I want to be a secluded area bum

anyhow I find that school is worth more as a social time than for learning
but at least I sort of learn

I've learned more since I left school (graduated!!) than I ever did while in it.

I admit to reading the encyclopedia from time to time and trying to teach myself foreign languages.

I intend to keep on learning until the day I die.

I'm just fascinated by all there is to discover in the world and wish that I could experience all of it -- a sunset in China, the poems of some ancient African writer, the taste of fresh caught fish in Greece.

I'm not a know-it-all. I'm a want-to-know-it-all. Huge difference. God gave me a brain, not the best brain for sure, but I intend to use it for all that it is worth.

Edited to make clear that I am not a drop-out and do not in any way advocate such a course of action. :)

Hamster is right. But you need that little piece of paper that school, and later college gives you, it's a ticket that lasts you all your life.

It ensures you'll have a job, should you decide that the beach bum business isn't quite what you'd like.

So, suffer a little in the social scene that is school and, you'll get your ticket and you'll be set to to look after yourself, not matter what life blows come your way.

I'm with hamster, thats exactly what I want to do! I've even got the whole thing mapped out. Only reason I would rather be back at school than working full time is the shorter hours and greater amount of time off! I'm a want-to-know-it-all too. If I could choose only one thing to do the rest of my life, it would be travel, explore, learn.

I think that even if you tried not to, you just couldn't help learning something new every day.

I also think it's REALLY important to travel while you're young. You never know what will happen when you are older and tied down to a job, a partner or children.

Though it would be impossibly difficult, I'd take my husband and children with me... Nomad family... They'd probably hate me for it later in life though...

Little kids don't really like to travel, they want their own things arond them in their own house. And, then there's constantly changing schools.......

You can travel now as much as you like, and I'm sure your future husband would love the nomadic lfe, but kids...... when they come later on, you just need to make a sacrifice for a few years. And then, you can be on the move again!

If I didn't have YMA, I'd be able to accompany my husband on his various business trips around Australia and the world. But, it would be too disruptive for YMA to be shuffled around like that. He needs stability in his life, and I'm making the sacrifice because I chose to have him.

Of course, you may strike it lucky and marry someone rich, and ten you can take your nanny and your tutors and the rest of the household around the world with you. We aren't that well off, so I stay at home. 8)
