Why iPod?

Postby Bomadeno on Wed Jan 07, 2009 8:36 am

Why do ipod have a monopoly of the mp3 player market? Why are ipods so expensive? Why does nooone try smaller brands? Where do people who own ipods get the money for upgrades/replacements? Where do those people get money to replace their music library after itunes deletes it?

If you're an ipod user, prepare to defend yourself against completely illogical arguments. If you'r an ipod hater, prepare to thrash ipods for any fault they have!

1) iPods have a built in break function, and will reliably stop working for some reason after about 1year 3 days (3 days after warranty)

There are some reasons for me to use iPod.
1) I got it for free (an 8GB limited edition iPod nano) :D
2) I use it only for Audio Books and it has pretty good Audio Books support. I never use it for video and seldom use it for music. I've tried many MP3 players, and iPod seems to be most audio books friendly. It remember the positions of the files I played and even transfer the bookmarks to my desktop.
3) It happened once when I lost my harddrive, iPod didn't allow me to retrieve the mp3 files (even without DRM), luckily I have backups (worst come to worst, I can always hack into iPod files from my Linux music players).
4) The sound quality is pretty good
5) They have the best user interface in the world (I guess... for iPod is the only Apple product I ever used in my life)
6) Battery life is pretty good

But I don't like the newest iPod nano, it's way too big.

Your point number one would win even me over pretty much instantly :noway:

My zen supports audio books, but as I don't have any, I can't test how good it is. It has bookmarks as well, which i can set in normal music files too.

Their interface is good, but then so is mine.

Battery life is the biggest complaint for my zen, as it needs to be locked to turn off the screen and so it drains battery fast when I use it on the desk with the buttons unlocked for ease... sheep

iPods annoy me because all the third party docking station manufacturer's make them with iPod interfaces rather than USB, meaning that if you don't have an iPod you can't use a station even tho it's not Apple making the stations! :protest:

I used to love my Ipod. I had hundreds of my favourite songs on there. Yes, it had a habit of randomly crashing and freezing but it was awesome.
But then, tragedy struck.
It fell in a fish tank.
And it died.
No joke!
It's still there, dead as a doodoo.

You shall be glad that your gold fish are enjoying the wonderful music now. Are they dancing yet?
