What causes animals to go extinct?

Animals due not always go extinct due to over predation.
Extinction often occurs after massive catastrophes. For example, asteroids hitting the Earth.

Or maybe, animals go extinct due to behavior. Animals and the ecosystems they live in are very complex. One thing changes, like behavior, and it could cause the whole system to collapse within itself.
Just like a complex clock. Take out, or change a gear, and it would cause the whole thing to go hay wire.

Hey Trumpetprotogy, you seem to have answerd your own question. But I, nonetheless, have another theroy. I belive that spicies can die if their planet is plunged into its sun like the Kryptonites in Superman The move.

Or if aliens come, build a huge trumpet which can resonate gravity, and destabalises the sun, resulting in a solar collapse and a flare which grills the planet.

Yes, thoughs would create a mass extinction. But what about the smaller ones. Species are supposidly dissapearing like 1 an hour or something like that. I am not sure exactly

Maybe they are being dissolved by acid rain. The smallest creatures going first.

I'm glad we got that through with. Now no one has to post this for my post.

Hey! Doesn't that kind of disprove evolution? If there is a species dead every hour, How did we get such diversity of speices?

There. Now if anyone wants to discuss this post, Please quote it in The Evolution Topic.

Maybe, but that is a lot of animals to be going just by 1 factor, acid rain.
And, isn't acid rain more of a city thing, where it is real polluted? The greatest biodiversity is in the rain forest, and there aren't too many big cities there.

Nope, the acid rain is slowly dissolving all living creatures.

But Because of the great Biodiversity in the rain forest, that is where the most species are extincted form.

extincted.... is that a word?
