TOD 2005/09/20 - Life - Fear

Are you afraid? Afraid of the world, the universe, life, anything and or anything? I am, and was wondering if anyone else was.

*there is no 'maybe' or 'other' option for this poll because it would be useless

The Univerese

Postby nil on Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:57 am

... I think I'm in yes and no group. And I guess that's why I'm afraid. I am afraid of the uncertainty. The yes and no is the uncertainty...

So far I have figured out what the Universe "is not", but I don't have a clue what the Universe "is".

I think a lot of people expend a great deal of energy in worrying about things they cannot change or dreading the inevitable.

There is a lot to fear in the world and a great deal of uncertainty.

death
violence in the street
violence at home
paying your next bill
passing that exam
making new friends
getting that job
being likd for yourself
being loved despite your faults...etc. etc.

Somehow we muddle through. For me, the greatest fear-killer is knowing that there are always alternatives.

Stuff does happen and when it does there are often choices, sometimes surprising ones, before you.

We cannot alter anything in regard to our own deaths, or natural disasters. They come upon us randomly, and really to fear these things is to make our lives unbearable.

And then too, each generation has it's own bogeys: nuclear war, AIDS, meteors, terrorism, and lately, Avian Flu....... so many, many things to worry about!

But we can choose to live our lives without fear. We can make the decision to choose what is right and good for us. We each deserve to be happy and safe within our own little corner of the universe.

Don't be afraid to speak out if something is wrong. Don't be afraid to tell someone if something bad has happened.

Don't be afraid to be honest - about your feelings, about your beliefs and about what you think is right and wrong.

Don't be afraid to make that first step. Don't be afraid to smile at someone.

And, try to remember that everyone, has been afraid at some time, even though they may not look it - and if you are still afraid of that persopn, try to imagine them with a big piece of spinach stuck right in the middle of their front teeth!

The bad news is, that even when you leave school bullies abound.

People are married to bullies, they work for them, there is not a club or group that you can join when there isn't some pain-in-the-neck/s trying to make your life miserable.

Some people can only make themselves big, by making others appear small.

You have to decide how you will deal with the bully that is causing you to be afraid.

A bully's success lies in your silent acceptance, and in your fear of embarrassment. Get over it! Don't be afraid to make a VERY LOUD fuss. You have the ability to make a choice, use it.

I'm an only child and my father died nine years ago. My mother is elderly and not in the best of health. Recently, it's been like looking into a horrible blank void, but somewhere you just find the strength to accept that, that's just the way things are, and you keep going.

Once you've accepted it, it becomes bearable, it's no longer frightening. That doesn't mean it's not painful, but the being the only one left part is no longer the main thing.

I am not afraid. What do I have to fear? not death, not life, not people, not pain, not anything. I am not afraid.

I am most afraid of nothing

the vast nothingness that I dreamt of a few days ago was so incredible void that I almost went insane in my dream

I find the thought of nothing to be incredibly impossible to even imagine
but those few moments of my dream were horrible

I am afraid, but not for myself. I am afraid for the children that I want to have, afraid for what the world will be like in the future, and uncertain if I could bear to bring a child into a world with so much turmoil. I fear not for myself, but for the next generation inheriting the world the people in power now have created.

I am afraid for my younger family members and their friends, the world has changed in a short time . One of the younger ones talks about going away to a school far away, next year but eventhough I know he will be ok if he goes, I still worry about the people around him, because he has led a sheltered life on the Centeral High School Roof. But he knows that he can always call me or my twin and we'll figure it out other.

I fear driving on busy elevated superhighways in strange, large cities during bad weather.

I fear getting old and weak.

I fear that the week-old chili I had for lunch today might kill me.

And I, too, fear needles.

Aha! I have found what I fear. Losing the ablility to express my thoughts. I would hate being traped inside my own body.
