Vulgar?

Postby Math_nerd on Mon Jan 30, 2006 6:43 am

Reasently, I have posted a black and white drawing of a partial birth abortion on the "abortion" thred. We have at least one onion that considers it vulgar and should not be alowed. I myself think that is nessisary to my argument to demenstrate exactly what happens in a partial birth abortion and that this picture should be alowed.

Now for the duel porpoises of this topic:
1) Should this paticular picture be allowed? http://www.nrlc.org/abortion/pba/Partial-Birth_Abortion.jpg

and

2) What is an appropriate image? Is it different for the debate forum?

As for 1, I think that yes, it should be alowed. I find it disturbing and possably offensive, but not vulgar or innaproprate givin the context. I think that we have come to the conclution that while offensive comments should not be tolerated in most of the forum, as long a comments are not personaly offensive / racist / sexist / seriotypical etc. (e.g. I hate you cause you are dumb, Blonds are not to be trusted, math nerds are bad spellers, your dad has a bad job, etc.) they are allowed for the sake of argument. I think that this picture falls under that catigory.

This is not to say that we should alow any image for the sake of argument, just as not all words are allowed. For an extreem example, a debate on the legality of prostitution should not include porn.

Please state your position on each and explain why you voted that way.
thanks.

There's not much pictures that's not allowed in this forum, other than porns or copyrighted pictures or spam pictures...

As for appropriateness, it depends on people.

Personally I don't think any picture or word can be offensive. But if you hit me with a stick, then I do find it offensive (the harder, the more offensive).
:blame:

But yes, please refrain from any personal attack on the post. For any personal feud, I suggesting resolving it offline with a wrestling contest.

I think the whole abortion debate has run it's course. You can drag up all the pictures you want but it's reached the point of flogging a dead horse.

I think the thread should be locked and shuffled off to Major Garbage......

As for voting, I think I've put in my two cents worth regarding the issue on the actual thread and, really, I just couldn't be bothered dragging this on anymore.

I choose not to vote.

I think that locking it is a good idea but I dissagree with putting it in the garbage. It would stand as a done debate, not lost or won, but just finnished. It is a major dabate among peoples at least in this nation. It should stay.

I'm not really sure that most people wanted you to post that because they either were against you in the debate or thought it was discusting or something because i think it was partially wrong to abort babies in the first place! this is the doctor who kills the baby:   and this is the parents or parent: :(  :rub: :anger: :tear: and this would be the parents or parent with the doctor: :box: :blame: :debate: :kill: :laser: :killall: :fight: :aim: :attack: :punish: :gossip: . if you think that abortion is all right, then you're very cruel   !

It's graphic and horrible, but then, so is abortion, which should be against the law in any civilized society except when the mother's life is at risk. Adoption's the better option.

It's along the same lines of showing old lynching photos from American Jim Crow days; or the lamps made from human skin in the Holocaust. Sometimes we need a shock to make us angry enough to either end a crime or vow "never, never again."

Anti-child-death advocates recently drove through my city with similar graphic photos on the side of their truck. It was disgusting. But if one person rethinks their position on child-murder from this, I'm willing to be disgusted for a while.

if we all have a special someone then they should just show themselfs sooner so we dont have to look so hard
