Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, Book 4)
Submitted by Reviewer (not verified) on Saturday, October 29, 2005 - 19:20 Adventure

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4), is written by J.K. Rowling, was released on 2000-07-08, is made by Listening Library, Usually ships in 24 hours. The list price is around US$39.95. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $26.37.
"Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" is much thicker than the previous HP books. Once again J.K. Rowling takes her magical series of tales in a darker direction. However, do not be mistaken. There is plenty of light touches and twists and turns to keep the intrest of teenagers. Early on, we are treated to a professional quidditch match, followed by a touch of evil. Harry gets back to school again, then the competition for the Triwizard cup begins. The competition is quite exciting. And, the ending of the story is breathtaking. Meanwhile, we meet Mad Eye Moody and Rita Skeeter and continue to bumb into characters such as Snape. Also, Harry begins to notice that girls are interesting.

For me, the series picked itself up to a higher level, again.

I recommend this book.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, Book 2)
Submitted by Reviewer (not verified) on Saturday, October 29, 2005 - 19:11 Books on Cassette

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2), is written by J.K. Rowling, was released on 1999-12-01, is made by Listening Library. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $34.00.
After reading the first book and diving headfirst into this one (like I did) you notice how the story itself is so well put together because it's like there was never a seperation. This starts where book 1 left off. And unlike book 1, where you can tell the main focus of the story was to develop who it is you're reading about and get planted into their lives, this book begins the slow yet ultimately satisfying dark plunge that the series as a whole is going to take.

During and after reading this you will come to understand that the rollercoaster of friendship, magic, prophacies, and ressurecting evil wizards is shaping up to be one hell of a ride.

Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2)
Submitted by Reviewer (not verified) on Saturday, October 29, 2005 - 16:00 Books on Cassette

Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2), is written by Christopher Paolini, was released on 2005-08-23, is made by Listening Library (Audio), Usually ships in 24 hours. The list price is around US$45.00. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $30.56.
Wonderfully fulfilling second entry in this series.

More information and some cool plot turns (which you could foresee from hints in the first book).

From my review of "Eragon" I will say it again ... I don't know HOW the movie company is going to convert the second book into movie form since they strayed so far from the first book's plot points. I am eagerly awaiting the second movie.

I devoured the third book ("Brisingr") in what seemed like seconds.

I have asked for notification from Amazon when the fourth (yes, fourth) book will be released - and I am very pleased CP had the thoughtfulness to expand the series rather than leave any good information out.

To the naysayers I say this:
Enjoy it for what it is - otherwise keep the negative reviews to yourself. BTW, MOST stories happen to parallel "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back". I'm a huge Star Wars fan (I saw it in the movie theater when it was FIRST released) and when I was reading Eldest ...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, Book 5)
Submitted by Reviewer (not verified) on Saturday, October 29, 2005 - 16:00 Books on Cassette

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Book 5), is written by J.K. Rowling, was released on 2003-06-21, is made by Listening Library (Audio), Usually ships in 24 hours. The list price is around US$45.00. (*The prices are subject to change) Street price is around $29.70.
Ms. Rowling's fifth book involves oodles of political intrigue between the government in power and many of the major characters teaching or attending Hogwarts. The school slowly morphs into a brutal, totalitarian institution under the control of the government. The reasons for the repression of the students and teachers are more complicated than simply good vs evil. This story is a wonderful way of teaching readers about the loss of individual rights. It is clearly darker than the previous four, but still very entertaining. There is plenty of magic, humor and excitement to keep readers of all ages entertained. However, I don't believe it is possible to fully understand and enjoy Ms. Rowling's fifth installment without reading the prior books. Also, many things are left hanging at the end and requires you to continue into the sixth novel for answers. No problem there. Ms. Rowling's books are addictive.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6)

Ms. Rowling has created another well-crafted adventure/mystery to the Harry Potter series. The reader will come to understand why and how Lord Voldemort became the evil, obsessed antagonist of the wizardry world. The author did a fine job of depicting the main teenage characters in an age-appropriate manner. Just like many 16-year-olds of this difficult age, some of Harry's, Ron's, and Hermoine's decisions are completely self-serving, unethical and, dare I say, meanspirited. Also, their puerile mood swings are very convincing and believable. A few new colorful characters are introduced as well as the enmity between Potter/Snape grows deeper and darker. There are smatterings of happy and funny moments, but for the most this book is pretty gloomy. Ms. Rowling has crafted a cliffhanger that easily will propel me into reading the last installment.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, Book 4)

Ms. Rowling apparently had a lot to say in this next installment of the series. Coming in at nearly twice the length of the previous story, the bulkiness does not detract from the good, solid storytelling. The author seamlessly brings new readers up to date in the life of Harry Potter by interjecting, throughout the book, facts from the previous three books. However, you will not truly appreciate the development of this wonderful wizardly world without reading them in sequence. Other reviewers have felt the need to list their favorites in this series, but the exercise is unnecessary. The first four books were very fun and easy reads. This stuff isn't meant to be Shakespeare, folks. Many, many adults and kids have gushed to me about how much they enjoyed all seven novels. Nothing in Ms. Rowling's books have soured me from soon reading the fifth installment. Sit back, relax and enjoy.
