A serious polemic about serious business: our Constitutional and National future. Both are being threatened by internationalists. Buchanan states his thesis clearly: wars kill empires. America has abandoned its traditional "no permanent alliances" admonition of Geo Washington and has gone global in their scope and helter skelter in their direction. We are squandering our military/moral/economic power. Buchanan prescribes that we fight wars only for our national interests -- not some nebulous crusade --and get back to the hemispheric emphasis of a revitalized Monroe Doctrine. Kirkus missed it: the "hyphenates" influence, if not almost dictate, important aspects of our foreign policy. (Even Truman, first to recognize Israel, tired of constant Zionist pressure. Who knows why the Sam Hill Red China is able to invade our hemisphere and park at either end of TRs Panama Canal?) After 34 years military service, I have become concerned by our current poor imitation of a Commander in Chief. Pat's book reaffirmed my allegiance to the Constitution and suggests my future work: help return the Republican Party to the Founding Principals and moral compass of Natural Law outlined in our Declaration of Independence.

There's too much hype about this book -- primarily from Buchanan's terrified GOP rivals and knee-jerk extreme leftists. The truth is, Buchanan doesn't write anything that hasn't already been argued by paleo-conservative and Old Left critics of American interventionism and US involvement in WWII. (He himself acknowledges this). The hysterical reaction to his arguments is simply because these ideas have been side-lined by imperialist neo-conservatives for so many years; anything that challenges the Official View is seen as a dangerous threat. Like many on the right, Buchanan is starting to realise that the mortal enemy of American civilization isn't necessarily in China or Russia -- the enemy of American civilization is in America itself. We have a long and serious battle ahead of us. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a scholarly view of where US interventionism has been, where it is going, and the disastrous effects it is causing to our Republic. Well done, Pat!

It's good to hear from a true Conservative nowadays.

Pat Buchanan is perhaps one of the last hopes for Conservatives in America and this book tells it like it is. Pat was about as Historically accurate as possible and he takes stabs at everyone. I think it's important for Conservatives to follow in this great man's footsteps and leave the Republican Party to rot.

In hear is the prediction of the Second Gulf War and the War On Terror with Osama Bin Laden leaving the world full of fear. And it was written in 1999.

All in all I think Pat Buchanan get's a bad rap; he is often called a racist and a Fascist, it's unfair and couldn't be any further from the truth. Pat Buchanan is a great man, a man of integrity and a man of honesty.
