Crystals on my mind

Postby hamster on Mon May 14, 2007 6:34 pm

So I was reading about poisonous crystals such as the calcium oxalate in certain plants, and I got thinking about more friendly crystals like table salt.

What happens to a salt crystal when you taste it on your tongue? Does it actually dissolve and lose its crystalline structure? If so, is it still salt, i.e., sodium chloride? Or does the chloride go away and only the sodium remain?

According to my high school chemistry class (which I scored an amazing C+ in the final exam), I would say a single salt crystal would disintegrate into numerous molecules and each of those would split into two subatomic particles.

Through the blood stream, the larger one would sink into our feet and the lighter one will elevate to our brain. Due to entangling phenomenon of quantum physics, the two subatomic particles would synchronize and cause the same idea to happen, say, cleaning the bathroom. But because of the opposite spin count of the two particles, they often contradict each other, and may result in situation like the brain particles intends to clean the bathroom but the feet particles may resist and relent to move.

I didn't take chemistry

nil's first paragraph could be viable but the second part is questionable

if we quit eating salt will the contradicting situations(in the brain and feet) cease to exist?

All scientific theory can be proven by experiments...

All you need to do is to take a liter of salt, mix it with water and drink it down, and if you are still alive (despite of your massive kidney failure), you will find out the veracity of my statement.

And if you are not ready to sacrifice your life for science, try it on your cat, or, better, somebody else's cat.

but will that prove the ceasing of the contradicting brain and feet messeges if you no longer eat salt

Salt is nice,
Salt is good,
Salt is tasty
On my food!

Those words, I realise
Don't rhyme much,
But they look good so I'm going to leave them there anyway.

I can prove it! I had salt on my dinner last night and now I intend to do the laundry but can't seem to stand up and move away from the computer!
I will holler you Home
